Rajkumar Hirani is making his OTT debut as a producer with Avinash Arun-directed Pritam And Pedro. The veteran filmmaker launches his son, Vir Hirani, in the central role. Arshad Warsi also headlines the series. The Munnabhai pairing, Hirani and Warsi, return after a long time. Ahead of Pritam And Pedro’s release on JioHotstar, Rajkumar spoke to Zoom exclusively about the major shift in marketing strategies in the film industry. While he adapts to the newer ways of reaching a wider range of audience, he feels promoting a movie was easier back in the day.
Rajkumar Hirani says marketing in films has changed
told Zoom exclusively that marketing has changed too much, and earlier, it was easier to reach people. Newspapers, national publications, trailers in cinema halls, radio and a few interviews would be enough to spread the word about a movie. He added, “Due to digital media, fewer people are reading newspapers. The younger generation is not reading, so you have to reach them through digital media, which is already fragmented. No matter how much you promote, you’re never sure that what I’m seeing is the same thing he’s seeing. Everybody has different algorithms. So you still feel it’s not reaching people all the time. We have to keep doing the same thing again and again.”

Rajkumar Hirani reveals Ranbir Kapoor has no manager
Talking about entourage costs, Hirani said he has been lucky to work with actors who don’t come with extra costs. “I’ve been very lucky with the people I worked with. I have not faced the entourage issue with Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan and with
, I did the whole film. I didn’t even know who his manager is. There was no manager; he was personally contacting everybody. Every assistant had his number. Anything he wanted, he would personally message everyone. But, yes, I keep hearing the entourage stories, and there’s an overload of people sometimes,” he shared.
