Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups promises a gritty, mega-budget gangster saga as the actor returns in his first film after KGF: Chapter 2.
Who is Yash playing in Toxic?
Pan-India star Yash returns to the big screen with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, his first film since KGF: Chapter 2. Set primarily in Goa between the 1940s and early 1970s, the film follows his character Raya, a man who carves out a crime empire in a coastal paradise where colonial power is fading and syndicates are on the rise. Driven by fear, ambition and a hunger for control, Raya builds his world “through blood, fear and betrayal.”
What is the story of Toxic?
According to the official overseas synopsis, Toxic is a “savage action-thriller” that plunges into the rot beneath Goa’s postcard-perfect surface. As smuggling routes turn into battlegrounds and loyalties unravel into suspicion, the story explores the cost of power: “Power is not granted – it is seized, and it always demands repayment.” In the end, the only force more dangerous than the consequences of Raya’s choices is the darkness within him, hinting at a strong psychological layer to the gangster saga.
When and where does Toxic release?
Toxic is slated for a pan-India theatrical release on August 26, 2026. Shot in Kannada and English, the film is positioned for both domestic and global audiences. In the UAE, it has already been tagged as “18 TBC”, signalling an adults-only rating once censorship is complete, thanks to its violent and sexually charged teaser.
Who is behind Toxic?
The film is co-written by director Geetu Mohandas and Yash, and produced by Yash in association with Venkat K. Narayan’s KVN Productions. Geetu, born Gayatri Das in Kochi in 1981, is a former Malayalam actress turned acclaimed director whose earlier works include Kelkkunnundo, Liar’s Dice and Moothon. Liar’s Dice won two National Awards and was India’s official submission to the Oscars, while Moothon earned her the Global Filmmaker Award at Sundance. Toxic is her third feature and biggest mainstream project to date.
What about the cast, rating and budget?
Alongside Yash, the film features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, Tovino Thomas, Akshay Oberoi, Darrell D’Silva and Sudev Nair. The intense visuals, nudity and dark tone in the teaser have already sparked controversy and complaints to the Karnataka Women’s Commission, and all but confirm an “A” certificate in India. Reports peg Toxic’s budget in the Rs 600 crore-plus zone, marking it as a true mega-budget venture that will need massive collections.
