In Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, a herd of elephants attacked a couple sleeping outside their house. The elderly husband died in the attack and his wife saved her life by running away. This case is of Chilma village in Rajpur forest range area, where last night Chamra father Loya Pahadi Korwa had come to the pasta market with his wife, where both the husband and wife drank alcohol and left for home.
It was late at night when both of them returned home and both were under the influence of alcohol. So he slept outside his house on the edge of the forest. A group of eight wild elephants arrived there and attacked the couple, who were chased away by the people of Chilma village and the forest department team. In this attack, a group of elephants crushed the elderly Chamra to death. The deceased’s wife saved her life by running away. However, during this time she got seriously injured and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Dozens of houses attacked in a week
Groups of wild elephants are creating havoc in the area. Wild elephants are resting in the forest on a large scale during the day and in the evening they are damaging the paddy crops of farmers. Not only this, elephants are entering the village and vandalizing people’s houses also. Within the last one week, groups of these elephants have vandalized dozens of houses in Murka village, which falls in the Balrampur forest range area.
People panic due to fear of elephants
There is an atmosphere of panic among the people due to the presence of elephants in the district. People are very scared. Along with continuously damaging crops, elephants are now also attacking people. People are forced to spend the night under the shadow of fear. They remain afraid that their homes might be attacked by a herd of wild elephants. On the other hand, the Forest Department team is continuously keeping an eye on the movement of the elephant group.
