Former KKR, RCB, MI Player Moises Henriques set to represent Portugal at the age of 39 Years

Veteran all-rounder and Australia international Moises Henriques is set to represent Portugal in international cricket. The 39-year-old Henriques, who was born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, moved to Australia at the age of one.

Henriques will feature for Portugal in the European Sub-Regional qualifier for the 2028 Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled for August. The group includes Czechia, Germany, Greece, and Israel. This move comes after he last played for Australia in 2021 and has now completed the ICC’s three-year residency/qualification period to switch nations.

Portugal will gain a highly experienced campaigner who can provide leadership and big-match temperament as the associate nation pushes toward qualification.

Moises Henriques Australia Career

Henriques made his international debut for Australia in T20Is against New Zealand in February 2009. He earned caps across formats: 4 Tests (debut 2013 vs India, where he scored 68 and 81* in his first match), 16 ODIs, and 24 T20Is, totalling 44 international appearances.

A reliable batting all-rounder, he was part of Australia’s squads during various periods but faced injury challenges and competition for spots. He played domestic cricket primarily for New South Wales and captained the Sydney Sixers to multiple Big Bash League titles. He is noted as the first Portugal-born player to represent Australia internationally.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) Henriques played 62 matches across franchises including Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings.

He was a consistent performer in the middle order and with the ball, notably contributing during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s successful campaigns in the mid-2010s.
