What is SEO Poisoning?
SEO poisoning is a technique in which hackers manipulate search engine optimization so that such dangerous links appear at the top of Google search results. As soon as you click on these links and visit the site, your personal information, bank details and important information like log-in ID and password are stolen.
It has been said in the report that by clicking on these links, the risk of a program named Gootloader being downloaded into the system increases. This malware can give control of your system into the hands of hackers, due to which hackers can steal your personal information and empty your bank account. According to Sophos, these links are especially dangerous for users living in Australia, because the hack only appears when someone searches with Australia included in these six words.
What to do to avoid hackers?
- Strong Password: Use different and strong passwords for all accounts. Passwords should include letters (both uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and special symbols. Apart from this, keep changing the password regularly.
- Use two factor authentication: In whichever app you get this feature, definitely use this feature in that app.
- Unknown Links and Public Wi-Fi: Do not click on suspicious emails, links or messages. Apart from this, do not share banking information or passwords on public Wi-Fi networks.
