A significant and controversial event unfolded at the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) election rally in Mumbai. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, along with other opposition leaders, participated in the rally.
However, what caught everyone’s attention was the playing of a song written by Veer Savarkar, ‘Jayastute,’ before Rahul Gandhi addressed the gathering.
Rahul Gandhi has frequently criticized Veer Savarkar, accusing him of collaborating with the British and accepting money from them. His statements about Savarkar have sparked numerous controversies. However, under pressure from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, Rahul has refrained from commenting on Savarkar in recent times.
The controversy deepens as Rahul Gandhi’s critics have often accused him of making contentious remarks about Savarkar. Recently, a Pune court summoned Rahul Gandhi over his derogatory comments on Savarkar, after Savarkar’s grandson, Satyaaki Savarkar, filed a defamation case against him.
The fact that the song ‘Jayastute,’ written by Savarkar, was played before Rahul Gandhi’s speech at an MVA rally has raised several questions in political circles. The coincidence of this song being sung at a rally where Rahul has openly criticized Savarkar is being viewed as highly contentious.
In addition, the MVA presented five guarantees ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, focusing on women, youth, and farmers. These guarantees include:
- ₹25 lakh health insurance.
- ₹3,000 per month for women.
- A guarantee of equality, caste-based census, and an increase in reservations.
- Loan waiver up to ₹3 lakh for farmers, with an incentive of ₹50,000 for regular repayments.
- ₹4,000 unemployment allowance per month for youth.
This political event has raised several questions, and the playing of Savarkar’s song at a rally where Rahul Gandhi has been highly critical of him has further fueled the controversy.
