Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, who commented on gangster Lawrence Bishnoi after the murder of Mumbai’s prominent leader Baba Siddiqui, is in trouble. After receiving threats from the gang, Pappu Yadav is now appealing to Home Minister Amit Shah and Nitish Kumar for security. Pappu Yadav has even said that Nitish is not even giving time to meet him.
However, this is not the first time that Pappu Yadav has come into political tension due to his own statements. Even in 2014 and 2024, Pappu is trapped in his own web.
How did Pappu get trapped by speaking on Lawrence?
Attacking the Central Government on the murder of Baba Siddiqui, Pappu Yadav said why criminals of two taka are being given preference. Pappu even said that hand him over to me, I will teach him a lesson. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail of Gujarat.
After giving statement on Lawrence, Pappu went to Mumbai and met Baba’s son Jishan. Just a day after meeting Zeeshan, Pappu received a death threat from Dubai. Pappu has written a letter to the Center for Z Plus security.
Claims on Lalu’s legacy spread from door to door
In May 2013, after being acquitted in the Ajit Sarkar murder case, Pappu Yadav came out of Beur jail in Patna. Pappu had neither power nor strength at that time. In 2009, Patna High Court had banned Pappu from contesting elections. When Pappu came from jail, Lalu took him with him.
In the 2014 elections, Lalu fielded Pappu on the RJD symbol. Pappu became Lalu’s candidate from Madhepura. Sharad Yadav was already the MP on the seat, to whom Nitish had again handed over the JDU symbol.
BJP also fielded candidates from here. Pappu Yadav won the election in the triangular fight of Madhepura. In 2014, RJD won 4 seats. One seat among them was from Madhepura. After the victory, everything was going well for Pappu Yadav, but in 2015 Pappu laid claim to Lalu’s legacy.
In fact, Lalu Prasad Yadav stayed away from electoral politics in 2013 due to a Supreme Court decision, after which Pappu felt that he could stake a claim on his legacy. It is said that after becoming MP, Pappu wanted to enter the race for Chief Minister.
During a meeting in Patna in 2015, Pappu said that I am Lalu’s successor. On hearing this, Lalu reprimanded him and threw him out of the meeting. After being expelled from RJD, Pappu formed his own party. However, the party could not create magic in the riots of Bihar.
Pappu Yadav’s deposit from Madhepura seat was forfeited in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pappu’s party could not perform even in the 2015 and 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. In both the elections the party was reduced to zero seats.
Merged the party but could not get the symbol
In 2024, Pappu Yadav merged his party with Congress. Before merging with Congress, Pappu Yadav had come to meet Lalu Yadav. Lalu had offered him to contest from Madhepura seat, but Pappu was adamant on contesting from Purnia seat. While talks were going on between Lalu and Pappu, he merged his party with Congress.
Angered by this, Lalu vetoed Purnia seat. Pappu Yadav could not get the ticket due to Lalu’s veto. In the end Pappu had to contest the elections from Purnia as an independent.
Pappu has become an MP, but is still in politics. There is also suspense on what his future will be. Along with Pappu, the politics of his son Sarthak Ranjan is also stuck in limbo.

He had to face defeat in 1998.
In 1999, Pappu again contested as an independent candidate and reached Parliament after winning. Pappu lost on LJP ticket in 2004. He could not contest the elections in 2009. Won from Madhepura in 2014 but got his bail confiscated from here in 2019. Pappu left Madhepura after this.
