Curtis Jones Transfer Talks: Inter Cites Valuation Gap In Liverpool Negotiations

Inter are still pushing to bring Curtis Jones from Liverpool, yet talks remain stalled. Nerazzurri chief executive Piero Ausilio confirmed strong interest in the midfielder, but highlighted a wide difference in valuation.

Liverpool are not willing to sell below their price, so any deal currently appears unlikely.

Jones is approaching the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract at Anfield. Reports in England state Liverpool prefer a sale this summer, rather than risk losing Jones on a free transfer once his existing agreement ends. Inter must therefore balance transfer cost against contract situation.

Inter already attempted to sign Jones in January. The Serie A club proposed a loan for the rest of the season, with a purchase option. Liverpool rejected that offer. More recently, Inter submitted a bid worth 21.7m euros (25m dollars). Liverpool turned that down as well.

Liverpool are understood to value Jones at around 35m euros (40m dollars). That figure has created a stand-off between the clubs. Inter see the player as a useful addition, yet do not wish to match Liverpool’s price. The current valuations from each side are shown below.

Piero Ausilio set out Inter’s stance in clear terms. “I’ve never denied that we like Curtis Jones,” Ausilio said. “He has the qualities that could give us something extra. But there’s a significant gap between our valuation and Liverpool’s.

“Liverpool have every right to ask for what they believe is a fair price, and we have every right to decide whether that works for us or not. As things stand, I’d say it’s very difficult.”

Jones is already a two-time Premier League winner with Liverpool. Jones joined the club at the age of nine. Jones moved through every youth level before reaching the first team. Across all competitions, Jones has made 228 senior appearances and scored 22 goals for Liverpool.

The 25-year-old remained an important option in midfield last season. Jones played 34 Premier League matches, more than most teammates in that position. Only Alexis Mac Allister with 37 appearances, and Dominik Szoboszlai plus Ryan Gravenberch with 36 each, featured more often for Liverpool in midfield.

Jones also contributed heavily in possession. Among Liverpool midfielders, Jones attempted the third-highest number of successful passes, with 1,509. Szoboszlai led ball recoveries with 187. Jones ranked second in that area, winning possession 144 times. These numbers help explain Liverpool’s valuation, and underline why Inter continue to monitor the situation.
