Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed passenger terminal building and cargo gate at the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
Petrapole (India)-Benapole (Bangladesh) is one of the most important land border crossings for India-Bangladesh in terms of both trade and passenger movement. During this, Home Minister Amit Shah fiercely targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over infiltration.
Amit Shah said, “When there is no legal way to cross the border, then the movement takes place illegally. When illegal routes of movement open up, they harm the peace of Bengal and India. I go by telling the people of Bengal that bring about a change in 2026, we are going to stop this infiltration completely. There can be peace in Bengal only when this infiltration stops. This will increase the exchange of culture and language with the countries on the border of India and a new era of partnership will begin.” While addressing the people, the Home Minister also targeted the India Alliance. He said, “PM Modi is committed to the development of Bengal. I want to ask the people of India Alliance that Mamata Banerjee was also their member, was also a minister, what did she give to Bengal in 10 years? Mamata Banerjee does not answer, but I have brought the answer. Only 2 lakh 9 thousand crore rupees were given in the UPM government. Narendra Modi’s government has given 7 lakh 74 thousand crore rupees to Bengal in ten years from 2014 to 2024.” Taking aim at CM Mamata Banerjee, the Home Minister said, “The money that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sends to Bengal is sacrificed to corruption. Your good days are not far away. Good days are going to start here with the calculation of 2026 assembly elections. Regarding MNREGA, Mamata Banerjee says that injustice is being done to Bengal. At the time of UPA, Mamata Banerjee was a part of the MNREGA government, at that time Bengal was given Rs 15 thousand crore. The NDA government of PM Modi gave Rs 56 thousand crore to Bengal in 10 years. It should be investigated whether the money of MNREGA reaches the people or goes to the workers of TMC.”
