India Faces Setback Against Ireland: Akash Chopra Suggests Changes for Second T20

The Indian cricket team’s series against Ireland has taken an unexpected turn. Initially, it was anticipated that India would dominate the two-match T20 series.

However, the reality has been quite the opposite. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team suffered a 34-run defeat in the first T20 match held in Belfast on Friday. This marked India’s first loss against Ireland.

Following this defeat, the Indian team is now on high alert ahead of the second T20 scheduled for Sunday. Discussions about potential changes to the playing eleven are underway. Losing the second T20 would mean losing the series, prompting careful consideration regarding any alterations to the lineup.

Former Indian opener Akash Chopra shared his insights on the playing eleven for the second T20 through a video on his official X account.

Chopra emphasized that the second T20 is crucial for India’s standing. He believes the team does not require significant changes in the playing eleven.

He stated, “In my opinion, one change could be made. Prasidh Krishna should be replaced by Prince Yadav for his debut. Prasidh’s T20 record is not impressive. In six matches, he has bowled 24 overs with an economy rate of 11.54, taking only eight wickets. It may be time to give Prince a chance.”

In the first T20, Prasidh Krishna conceded 57 runs without taking a wicket in his four overs.

Additionally, Chopra suggested that Ravi Bishnoi should replace Washington Sundar. He noted that the Indian batting lineup has considerable depth, and introducing Bishnoi could enhance the bowling attack. If Bishnoi is not included, Suryaansh Shedge could also be given an opportunity, as he possesses remarkable bowling and batting skills.

Chopra did not mention any other changes in the opening, middle order, or bowling. Observing Akash Chopra’s video, it seems that Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut may still be a while away.
