Norway vs France, FIFA World Cup 2026: France sealed top spot in Group I with a dominant 4-1 victory over Norway in their final FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match on Friday.
The former world champions maintained their perfect record in the tournament and underlined their status as one of the favourites for the title.
Norway, who had impressed in their earlier matches, struggled to cope with France’s pace and quality as Les Bleus secured a convincing win to head into the knockout stages full of confidence.
France start on front foot
France took control of the contest from the opening whistle and quickly put Norway under pressure. Their attacking movement caused problems for the Norwegian defence, which found it difficult to deal with the constant runs behind the backline.
The breakthrough came in the first half as France capitalised on a defensive lapse to take a deserved lead. Norway attempted to respond but were unable to create clear-cut opportunities against a well-organised French side.
Les Bleus extend their advantage
France continued to dominate possession after the break and doubled their lead with another well-worked move. The goal gave Didier Deschamps’ men complete control of the game as they dictated the tempo and moved the ball confidently across the pitch.
Norway briefly raised hopes of a comeback by pulling a goal back midway through the second half. However, France responded immediately, restoring their two-goal cushion and ending any possibility of a Norwegian fightback.
A late fourth goal capped an impressive display from Les Bleus, who looked sharp in attack and disciplined in defence throughout the contest.
France march into Round of 32 in style
The victory ensured France finished at the top of Group I with maximum points from three matches. They scored 10 goals and conceded only two during the group stage, emerging as one of the most balanced teams in the competition.
Despite the defeat, Norway also progressed to the Round of 32 after collecting six points from their three group matches. They will now shift their focus to the knockout stage, where sterner challenges await.
France, meanwhile, will head into the next round carrying strong momentum and growing belief that they can mount another serious challenge for the World Cup trophy.
