Enzo Maresca expressed concern over Liam Delap’s shoulder injury, fearing it might lead to another extended absence. Delap was injured during Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth after a collision with Marco Senesi.
He left the field with his arm in a makeshift sling. This setback follows his recent return from a two-month hamstring injury layoff.
Delap has only made 17 appearances across all competitions, including the Club World Cup, since joining Chelsea in the summer. “Unfortunately, he has already been out for two months, and he has to be out again,” Maresca stated. The striker’s absence is felt as Chelsea needs a player of his calibre in the No.9 position.
Despite limited playtime, Delap managed to score twice for Chelsea. His first goal came during the Club World Cup, followed by another against Barcelona in a 3-0 Champions League victory. However, he is yet to score in the Premier League despite having 12 attempts on goal.
Maresca acknowledged Delap’s misfortune with injuries and emphasised the team’s need for a strong forward like him. “We don’t know for how long, but it looks quite bad, his shoulder. He has been unlucky. We are also a bit unlucky because we need that kind of a No.9,” Maresca commented.
The timing of this injury is particularly unfortunate as Delap had just returned from another lengthy absence due to a hamstring issue at the end of October. His ongoing struggle with injuries has limited his contributions to Chelsea since his transfer.
Chelsea fans and management hope for Delap’s swift recovery so he can contribute more significantly to their campaign. The team eagerly awaits updates on his condition and potential return timeline.
