In the match between Mumbai and Assam in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, something happened which is rarely seen in T20 cricket. Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur took the ball in his hand and shook the entire batting line-up of Assam in the powerplay itself. Shardul put Mumbai in a strong position in the first 3 overs to save the target of 220 runs. This excellent form of Shardul Thakur before IPL 2025 is also a good sign for Mumbai Indians, who have traded Shardul to the Lucknow team.
Shardul Thakur wreaked havoc in bowling
Defeating the target of 220 runs, Shardul Thakur started the bowling for Mumbai. Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets in his very first over. On the very first ball of the innings, he showed Assam opener Danish Das the way to the pavilion. Then he made Abdul Aziz Qureshi his victim on the third ball and also took the wicket of Riyan Parag on the fifth ball. Which broke the back of Assam’s innings.
Shardul Thakur also started his second over in a similar manner. He took a wicket on the very first ball. That means Shardul got 4 wickets in just 7 balls, it was like a dream. Even after this his hunger did not stop. Another batsman was dismissed in the third over and he completed 5 wickets for just 23 runs. Due to which, by the end of the power play, Assam’s score was reduced to just 49 for 6 wickets.
Mumbai’s easy win
Due to this brilliant bowling of Shardul Thakur, Mumbai team won this match by 98 runs. In response to 221 runs, Assam team could bat only 19.1 overs and were all out after scoring 122 runs. During this, Sairaj Patil and Atharva Ankolekar also took 2 wickets each. Shams Mulani also managed to take 1 wicket.
