Tiruvannamalai Braces for Millions as Maha Deepam to Crown 2,668-Ft Sacred Hill
The sacred hill itself is worshipped as a manifestation of Lord Shiva. The festival, which began with flag hoisting on November 24, features daily processions of deities on various vehicles. The climactic moment will occur at 6 PM on Tuesday, when the colossal lamp is lit atop the peak. Simultaneously, the rare form of Lord Arthanariswarar will be unveiled for a special annual darshan inside the temple, and a giant lamp will be lit in the main sanctum.
The synchronised lighting acts as a signal for devotees across Tiruvannamalai to light lamps in their own homes, creating a breath taking panorama of light. Northern Zone IG Asra Garg is overseeing the massive security arrangements to manage the immense crowds and ensure safety during the holy event.
More than 15,000 police personnel have been deployed as part of security measures on Maha Deepam day (December 3) as part of Karthigai Deepam festival, which is being held from November 24 to December 7, at Arunachaleswarar temple in Tiruvannamalai town.
