Annual Pollution by one person: On National Pollution Control Day, know how much pollution a person spreads in a year through car, internet, coffee and AC use and how to reduce it.
National Pollution Control Day is celebrated every year on 2 December. On this day, along with remembering the dangers of increasing pollution across the country, there is a need to understand that pollution increases not only from factories or vehicles but also from a human being. The amount of pollution that a single person spreads in a year due to his needs and work is shocking. Most people do not pay attention to this but everyone needs to understand this. Let us know about those activities of humans on special days, due to which pollution increases.
1 ton of carbon emissions from daily driving
Just by driving a scooter/car 10 km a day, a person increases pollution a lot. A car or scooter emits approximately 2.3 kg of CO₂ in 1 litre. If a person drives at this speed every day, it produces up to 1 ton of carbon emissions. Public transport can be used for solution.
Pollution also increases by watching videos
Most people may not be aware but being online every day also results in carbon emissions. If a person watches a video for 3 to 4 hours, 150 kg of pollution is generated annually just from internet use. Changing video quality to auto/SD will reduce the footprint by 30%.

Making coffee increases the amount of carbon
Drinking 700–800 cups of coffee in a year produces 70 kg carbon emissions. Making a cup of tea or coffee releases about 200 grams of carbon dioxide CO gas into the atmosphere, which is called “carbon footprint”. Using plant-based milk instead of milk will produce 20% less carbon.
AC increases environmental pollution
Everyone knows about the harm caused to the environment by AC but still it is being used more and more. AC releases an average of 0.8–1.2 kg CO₂ in an hour. At the same time, 300–600 kg CO₂ is released from AC in 3 months. If the temperature is kept at 24–26°C then 30% electricity and CO₂ will be saved.
Carbon production from buying new clothes
On an average, an Indian buys 20–25 clothes a year, due to which a single person emits up to 0.5 tonnes of carbon emissions. If less clothes are purchased, carbon emissions can be reduced.
