Changed religion after murder, kept a new name… Killer caught in film style after 36 years!

Murder accused Pradeep Saxena, who was absconding for 36 years, was living in Moradabad after changing his new identity and religion. Bareilly Police arrested him on the orders of the High Court. The accused had started a new life under the name Abdul Rahim. The police revealed the entire matter.

It is often seen in films that a criminal escapes from the police for years by changing his name, face and identity. All this seems limited to reel life, but this incident that came to light in Bareilly is absolutely real. Here, a murder accused not only changed his name, but also changed his religion, settled a new life and continued to trouble the law for 36 years. But the string of justice finally reached his neck. Following the strict orders of the High Court, Bareilly Police has revealed the entire truth of the accused’s story and arrested him.

Accused of 1980s, absconding since then

The matter is related to Premnagar police station area. According to police records, Pradeep Kumar Saxena was booked for serious crimes like murder (section 302) and theft (section 379). After the incident, he ran away from home and family and since then he was wanted for not appearing in the court.

Changed name, adopted religion, new life with new identity.

Police investigation revealed that Pradeep completely changed himself while he was absconding. He changed his name to Abdul Rahim alias Saxena Driver and converted to Muslim religion. He shifted to Mohalla Karula of Moradabad and started driving there. With the help of his new identity, he was assuming that the police would never be able to find him.

High Court’s order became a turning point

When the case remained pending even after 36 years, the High Court on 16 October 2025 gave clear instructions to the Bareilly Police that under any circumstances, the accused should be arrested and presented in the court within four weeks. As soon as the order was received, SSP Anurag Arya formed a special team under the supervision of CO Nagar I Ashutosh Shivam and the work of searching the old records started.

Got a big clue from the family

The team first reached the accused’s native town Shahi, where people told that Pradeep had left home about three decades ago. After this the police reached his brother Suresh Babu, who told that Pradeep has changed his religion and now lives in Karula, Moradabad and drives. This information proved to be the biggest clue for the police.

Based on sources and local input, Bareilly police team reached Moradabad and arrested Pradeep, living in the name of Abdul Rahim. During interrogation, the accused admitted that he tried to escape from the police and court by adopting a new identity.

Case like a challenge for the police

According to SP City Manush Parik, this case was difficult for the police because the case was very old, the accused changed his name, changed his religion, changed his city, and settled a completely new life. Despite this, the police found the accused with the help of continuous investigation and technical resources. Now the accused will be presented in CJM Bareilly court as per the order of the High Court.
