UP shines in World Powerlifting Championship, Guru-disciple won international medals

In the World Powerlifting Championship 2025, teacher Harish Chandra of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Agra won gold and student Raman Kumar won silver. The government is giving Rs 10 lakh for the lab. This achievement is proof of rural talent getting a strong platform.

Lucknow. The sports and youth welfare policy of the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is now giving great results at the international level. The biggest example of this is the big achievement of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya located in Itaura, Agra in the World Power Lifting Championship 2025 held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.

Great performance by the pair of guru and disciple

In the championship, the school’s exercise teacher Harish Chandra won the gold medal in the 77 kg weight category and achieved the title of world champion. Class 11 student Raman Kumar brought pride to the country and the state by winning the silver medal in the 56 kg weight category. Players from more than 40 countries participated in the competition.

Both players are national record holders

Both the players were selected on the basis of their excellent performance in the National Powerlifting Championship held in Gujarat recently. Harish Chandra created a national record in deadlift by winning gold in the senior 77 kg category, while Raman Kumar won gold in the sub-junior 56 kg category. This success shows that quality training is available even in government schools.

Government and leaders congratulated the players

Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge) Aseem Arun, while congratulating both the players, said that this achievement is a moment of pride for the entire state and the country. He said that the performance that the teachers and students have shown on the international platform will become an inspiration for the upcoming players.

A modern powerlifting lab worth Rs 10 lakh will be built in the school.

Seeing the success of the players, the Social Welfare Department has decided to build a state-of-the-art power lifting lab in Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Itaura. District Social Welfare Officer Ghasiram Prajapati said that Rs 10 lakh has been sanctioned by the department for the lab. Modern powerlifting equipment will be installed in this lab, so that more players can get proper training.

Rural talents are getting the right platform

Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department J. Ram said that this achievement has further strengthened the belief that in the future, more international players will emerge from this school. The success of Harish Chandra and Raman Kumar proves that government policies are providing the right platform and better resources to rural talents.
