This is the story of Rahu Paithani temple
According to the popular legend, when there was a war between the gods and demons to get the pot of nectar, Lord Vishnu in the form of Mohini asked both the parties to drink the nectar equally. Both gods and demons agreed to this. But Mohini only tricked the gods into drinking nectar. A demon named Swarabhanu came to know about this and taking the form of gods, he also drank the nectar. Then Lord Vishnu cut off his head with his Surdashan Chakra. But he did not die because of drinking the nectar. His head was called Rahu and his torso was called Ketu. It is believed that Rahu Paithani temple was built where Swarbhanu’s head fell.

Here Rahu is worshiped along with Shiva.
It is believed that when Adi Guru Shankaracharya was passing through this place, he felt that this place was influenced by Rahu. He built a temple of Rahu at this place and also established a Shivalinga so that the negativity of Rahu could be reduced. Since then, the tradition of worshiping Raah along with Mahadev has been going on in this temple.
Devotees come to get relief from Rahu Dosha.
It is said that people who have Rahu in an inauspicious position in their horoscope or who are affected by Rahu’s Mahadasha, come here and worship Rahu, which reduces their defects and the problems going on in their life also start going away. Here Moong Khichdi is specially offered to Rahu. Devotees also eat it as Prasad.

Paithani village is connected to all the national highways of the country. One can easily reach here by coming to Uttarakhand. The distance here from Pauri is about 46 km.
