The 9.9 km long six-lane bridge being built on the Ganga river in Prayagraj has reached its final stage. This bridge, being built at a cost of Rs 1947 crore, will provide great relief to the traffic of the city. After completion, traffic on Lucknow-Kanpur-Delhi route will increase.
Prayagraj: The mornings of Sangam city have always been special for the people – but in the coming days, another new chapter is going to be added to the identity of the city. The six-lane bridge, which has been being constructed over the huge stream of Ganga for the last three years, is now almost at its last stage. This news is a big relief for the city residents who have been waiting for this project for a long time, because this bridge is going to bring revolutionary changes in the traffic system of Prayagraj.
Increase in construction speed as soon as 200 ton segment is installed
The construction of this approximately 9.9 kilometer long bridge, spanning from Stanley Road to Malak Harhar, has now gained rapid pace. Recently a 200 tonne heavy segment was installed, following which the most technically challenging parts are now almost complete. A total of 288 segments are to be installed in the bridge, of which more than 120 have already been installed.
The construction company has intensified the work by increasing the number of workers and heavy machinery. The process of laying the segment by making a temporary path amidst the strong current of Ganga is going on continuously.

Cost of Rs 1947 crore, huge structure standing on 67 pillars
The cost of this six-lane bridge, which is being built under the supervision of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is Rs 1947 crore. The foundation of the bridge is being built on 67 strong pillars, which is an example of high technology and precision. The project was launched in February 2021. The original deadline was 2024, but due to technical and administrative reasons it has now been extended to 2026.
Traffic will get a big relief corridor
As soon as this bridge is ready, the traffic system of Prayagraj will completely change. At present, people will get relief from the severe traffic jam that occurs daily on the old bridge. Other than this:
- Lucknow
- Kanpur
- Agra
- Delhi
For example, passengers going towards big cities will also save both time and fuel.
The construction agency is receiving praise
Haryana’s Singla Construction Private Limited is executing this project. Officials say that the segment technology is high-cost and high-precision, hence it takes time. But now the project has entered a final rhythm and its final form is expected to be revealed in the coming months.
