In the report prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics of Delhi Government, it has been informed that the inflation rate in the national capital last financial year was much lower than other metros and the national average. This was especially the case in the fuel and power group, but this rate increased in the food and beverage and accommodation sectors. The report assessed the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) between Delhi and 14 other metros. These include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Indore, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Varanasi, Amritsar and Lucknow.

According to the report, Kolkata had the highest increase in CPI (IW) at 3.6 percent in the financial year 2024-25, while the national average was 3.4 percent. This was followed by Mumbai (3.0 percent), Delhi (1.8 percent). There was no change in Chennai. Among the selected 15 major cities, Delhi’s consumer price index was the third lowest for the calendar year 2024 and the fifth lowest for the financial year 2024-25. The highest index was recorded in Lucknow and Chandigarh. According to CPI (IW), the inflation rate in Delhi between 2020 and 2024 has ranged from 1.7 percent to eight percent. The inflation rate in 2024 was 1.7 percent, while in 2023 it was 3.7 percent. The inflation rate in the food and beverages group was 5.6 percent in 2024, while it was 4.6 percent in 2023. No change was seen in the group of betel nut, betel nut, tobacco and intoxicants in 2024, whereas the inflation rate of this group in 2023 was 3.7 percent.
