Budget overruns have become a growing concern in the Telugu film industry, with several big-ticket projects reportedly facing escalating costs.
Recently, there were reports that S S Rajamouli’s upcoming globe-trotting adventure Varansi was being financially reassessed due to changing market dynamics. Similar speculation has also surrounded Adivi Sesh’s G2.
Now, industry circles are buzzing about Nani’s ambitious project, The Paradise.
From the outset, Nani has viewed The Paradise as a landmark film in his career.
Impressed by director Srikanth Odela’s vision, the actor reportedly committed himself fully to the project and encouraged producer Sudhakar Cherukuri to mount it on a scale much larger than what is usually associated with his market range.
The belief was that a successful film could elevate Nani into a higher commercial bracket and expand his reach beyond his existing audience base.
However, reports suggest that the project has already consumed most of its planned budget, even as the production schedule continues to stretch.
The film was initially targeted for a March release before being shifted to August. Now, September 25 is said to be the latest release date under consideration.
Those close to the project indicate that there is strong confidence in the film’s content and Srikanth Odela’s execution.
The concern, however, lies in the economics.
With production costs rising and the OTT market no longer offering the kind of lucrative deals seen a few years ago, recovering a massive investment has become increasingly challenging.
