Urmila Matondkar Shares Challenges of Acting with Sridevi in Judai

Hindi cinema has produced many films that continue to captivate audiences today. One such film is the blockbuster “Judai,” released in 1997. Its unique storyline and memorable songs have made it a favorite among viewers.

The film features the late actress Sridevi, actor Anil Kapoor, and actress Urmila Matondkar, whose performances were widely appreciated. Particularly, Urmila’s portrayal of Jahnvi left a lasting impression on the audience. However, the shooting experience was not as easy for Urmila as it appeared on screen.

Recently, Urmila Matondkar appeared as a special guest on the dance show “India’s Best Dancer Season 5.” During the episode, she reminisced about her cinematic journey. When discussing “Judai,” she revealed how challenging the experience was for her.

Urmila stated, “I loved the film’s story and character, but I was quite nervous working alongside stars like Sridevi and Anil Kapoor. I often wondered how I would prove my acting skills in front of such experienced artists. Just the thought of acting in front of Sridevi made me break into a sweat.”

She continued, “Sridevi was a tremendous actress. Her presence had a unique impact. She was dedicated to her craft and approached every scene with hard work and sincerity. Watching her perform made me feel immense pressure while acting.”

Urmila also shared an anecdote related to the song “Haan Mujhe Pyaar Hua Allah Miyan.” She mentioned, “I was worried about several scenes. I kept thinking that my performance might falter. However, as the shooting progressed, I had the opportunity to learn a lot from them. Sridevi and Anil Kapoor were like a masterclass in acting. Gradually, my anxiety faded, and I began to enjoy the set.”

The story of “Judai” was quite different for its time. It revolves around a woman who, in her quest for wealth and a comfortable life, agrees to let her husband remarry. However, as time passes, she realizes that allowing a third person into her marital life was a significant mistake.

Produced by Boney Kapoor, the film also featured talented actors like Kader Khan, Farida Jalal, Johnny Lever, Paresh Rawal, Upasana Singh, Omkar Kapoor, and Saeed Jaffrey.
