Tracing her life from 1940 through the 1990s, this film recounts the story of her rise to become one of Maharashtra’s most renowned folk theatre artists. Who was Vithabai Narayangaonkar?
Born in July 1935 in Pandharpur, Maharashtra , emerged as one of the most celebrated icons of Marathi folk theatre. Raised in a family deeply rooted in traditional performing arts, she began performing at a young age and went on to redefine the Tamasha and Lavani stage. She mesmerised everyone with her electrifying presence, expressive storytelling, and powerful vocals.

Over a career spanning several decades, Vithabai became a symbol of Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage, captivating audiences with her artistry and dedication. She was honored with the title of ‘Tamasha Samradni’ by the Maharashtra government and won Presidential medals in 1957 and 1990. Despite her immense fame and cultural influence, Vithabai faced severe financial hardship in the later stages of her life and passed away in poverty.

Speaking about the cast of Eetha, Shraddha Kapoor will play Vithabai Narayangaonkar, while Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub will be seen in key roles. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar and will hit theatres on August 28, 2026.
