BCCI Announces Nitish Reddy’s Replacement; 23-Year-Old PBKS Star Joins Team India

Punjab Kings all-rounder Suryansh Shedge received his maiden national call-up as the replacement for injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in the Indian squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.

After the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20, Nitish complained of pain in his left quadriceps. The BCCI Medical Team has ruled him out of both T20I series after recommending a period of rehabilitation following a thorough medical evaluation. Suryansh received the call-up after outstanding performances for India A in the just-finished tri-series in Sri Lanka.

The 23-year-old contributed with the ball, bowling 23 overs during the competition, and scored 147 runs in five games while batting in the middle order. He scored 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order during Mumbai’s winning Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-2025, making him one of the team’s best players.

“Suryansh Shedge replaces Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s squads for Ireland and England series. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Suryansh Shedge as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England. Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series,” said BCCI in their official statement.

“Suryansh earned the call-up following a string of impressive performances for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka. Batting in the middle order, the 23-year-old scored 147 runs in five matches and also chipped in with the ball, bowling 23 overs across the tournament. He was also one of the standout performers for Mumbai in their victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-25, scoring 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order,” the statement added.

Reddy was also meant to cover for Hardik Pandya, who is unable to bowl 10 overs in ODIs due to a quadriceps injury. Before Reddy can begin his return To play procedures, it is anticipated that he will need to finish his rehabilitation, which might take up to four weeks. The 23-year-old has already represented India in 10 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 4 T20Is. He missed the second game in Lucknow but participated in the other two ODIs during the Afghanistan series.
