Singer-composer, Amaal Mallik, has once again been making headlines, but it’s not for a hit song or anything like that. As a contestant on Big Boss 19, he was recently seen getting into a heated argument with actor and fellow contestant Gaurav Khanna over a topic many celebs know all too well: nepotism.

It all started in the latest episode of Bigg Boss 19, when Farrhana Bhatt and Amaal Mallik started taking a sarcastic dig at Gaurav Khanna for acting fake for the past 3 months on the show. In response, Gaurav hit back at Farrhana, saying that if he has managed to act for so long, he must surely be deserving of an award -specifically, an Oscar. He further claimed that if he is acting as someone he is not, then Amaal too is fake, acting as a musician who knows what struggle is.
The exchange grew even more heated when Gaurav Khanna began discussing the insider-outsider divide often seen in Bollywood. During his argument with Amaal, he stressed that those with industry connections often secure their first opportunity far more easily than newcomers. According to him, his aspirations lie where Amaal’s struggle starts. To this, Amaal countered:
“Ussi tarike se jaise ek common man khada hai Mehboob studio ke bahar, mera bhai aur mom khade rahe, koi difference nahi tha.”
Even after this, Gaurav did not back down, pointing out that Amaal’s family legacy made it easier for him to meet Salman Khan, whereas someone like him might take two decades to get the same opportunity. Disagreeing with Gaurav’s words, Amaal insisted that every artist faces a similar kind of struggle.
Malti Chahar tried to calm things down between the two contestants, stating that while hard work is universal, each person’s struggle is unique and shouldn’t be compared. After detailing the struggles even his brother, Armaan Mallik, faced, what he said next left everyone shocked. Amaal stated:
“Mere papa ko kabhi Anu Mallik ka support mila he nahi, hum reverse nepotism ke product hain sir. Daboo Mallik was a failure, and I have no problem in admitting it. My father failed.”

While some of Amaal Mallik’s statements were understandable, his remarks about his own father left netizens angry and unimpressed. Telling him that he should be ashamed of himself, one social media user wrote, “Amaal Mallik, you are pathetic. To prove your own success, you labelled your own father a failure. That was so disrespectful of you. What an expose of a disgraceful part of your personality.”
Another disappointed user wrote, “Amaal Mallik completely disrespected his own father on national television by saying, ‘My father is a failure’; he hasn’t achieved anything in his life.” Social media has been flooded with similar comments as many viewers of the show felt that Amaal’s attempt to justify “reverse nepotism” backfired, accusing him of deflecting rather than acknowledging the privilege he has been provided in Bollywood.
