Patna morning was immersed in election atmosphere today. The hustle and bustle outside the counting centres, the tight security inside and the changing trends with every passing minute further increased the political temperature. Initial data of 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has indicated that the contest is tough, but at present the lead is going in the account of NDA.

According to the latest trends, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading on 53 seats, while the Grand Alliance is leading on 29 seats. Jan Suraj Party has also made the contest interesting by gaining initial lead on two seats.

NDA has lead in exit polls, but the competition on the ground is interesting

Most exit polls had predicted a clear lead for the NDA, while some had also predicted the Grand Alliance to be in a strong position. Today’s early trends suggest that the contest is straight between the two big alliances.

2,616 candidates are in the fray, ECI said – no need for repoll on any seat

The official statement issued by the Election Commission said that

  • Elections were held in two phases on 6 and 11 November.
  • 2,616 candidates were in the fray
  • 12 recognized political parties participated
  • There was no demand for repolling from any assembly constituency.

Main contest: NDA vs Grand Alliance

The main competition is-

  • NDA: BJP + JDU + LJP (RV) + HAM + RLM
  • Grand Alliance: RJD + Congress + CPI-ML + CPI + CPM + VIP

Mathematics of last elections: Changing equations, changing loyalties

In 2020, NDA won majority by winning 125 seats and Nitish Kumar again took oath as the Chief Minister. But in 2022, Nitish Kumar broke ties with BJP and formed the government with the Grand Alliance. After this, he again returned to NDA in 2024 – these changes brought a big stir in the politics of Bihar.

Performance of parties in the last two elections:

  • BJP: 53 seats in 2015, 74 seats in 2020
  • RJD: 80 seats in 2015, 75 seats in 2020
  • JD(U): 71 seats in 2015, 43 seats in 2020
  • Congress: 27 seats in 2015, 19 seats in 2020

Now eyes on the results – will history be repeated or will the picture change?

While the initial trends are pointing towards the NDA, the Grand Alliance claims that the final results will lean towards them. As the counting progresses, the picture will be clear as to who will take over power in Bihar in 2025.
