Mercedes-Benz Teases Next-Gen GLB SUV – To Get A Massive Triple-Screen Layout

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to reveal the next-generation GLB SUV, and the first teasers already hint at a serious tech overhaul. The global debut is set for December 8, and from the looks of it, the new GLB is going to be far more than just a mild update.

Let’s start with the cabin, because that’s where the biggest change is. The new GLB will get what Mercedes calls the MBUX Superscreen, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a sweeping triple-screen setup that merges a 10.25-inch instrument cluster with a pair of 14-inch touchscreens. Expect the entire dash to be one big slab of digital real estate.

Mercedes has also made sure the GLB remains practical for families. There’s still seating for up to seven, but space inside is said to be noticeably better this time, especially in the second row. A panoramic glass roof comes as standard, and if you want to go fancy, you can even spec it with a “starry sky” lighting effect.

Under the skin, the GLB is expected to share its powertrains with the new CLA lineup. That means a range of hybrid and electric options, with power figures going up to around 349 hp for the more enthusiastic drivers. The hybrid variants will likely use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the all-electric model could pack an 85 kWh battery with single- or dual-motor setups.

Mercedes isn’t cutting corners in testing either. The prototypes are currently undergoing torture tests at the brand’s Sindelfingen facility, including cold-weather simulations that dip to a bone-freezing -40°C. Engineers are focusing heavily on heating efficiency and cabin insulation, areas where the new GLB reportedly performs much better than the outgoing model. Once it hits the road, the next-gen GLB will take on familiar rivals like the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, but with a clear edge in interior tech and luxury appeal.
