cholesterol deposits in veins
There is a risk of many diseases due to increase in cholesterol. People take medicines to control it, but now scientists have discovered a drug which can reduce the increased cholesterol to half the level with just one dose. Although research on this has not been done on a large scale yet, it is being considered a big step towards controlling cholesterol disease.
This research has been published in The New England Journal of Medicine. In research, scientists have shown that a single dose genetic-editing treatment reduced LDL and triglycerides by about 50 percent. This therapy can reduce the risk of high cholesterol to a great extent, but it is still in the initial stage and this research has not been done on a large scale yet.
15 patients were included in this study. In these, normal medicines did not provide much benefit in controlling cholesterol level. These patients were given single dose treatment. The ANGPTL3 gene in the liver was targeted and a 50 percent reduction in people’s bed cholesterol was observed with just one dose. The effect of this single dose lasted for 60 days.
A single dose will do the trick
If this research is done on a large scale in the future, then a single dose can work instead of a medicine every day. However, scientists have said that this trial is still small and the results of its safety and long-term effect are yet to come. Very mild side effects were also seen in some patients, but no serious risk was seen from these. Research has also said that to control cholesterol, it is important for people to take care of their diet and good lifestyle.
Increased cholesterol causes many diseases
Increased cholesterol causes many diseases. Due to this, the biggest risk is of heart attack and brain stroke. Due to increase in cholesterol, it gets hidden in the veins of the heart, which causes blockage in the heart. This research has been published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
