There was a stir in Jodhpur due to the sound of loud explosions on Tuesday night. People of Mandore and Banar areas left their homes thinking it was an earthquake. It was later revealed that it was a sonic boom from an Indian Air Force fighter jet, which occurred during a routine flight.

Jodhpur: On Tuesday night, sudden loud explosions in Mandore and Banad areas of Jodhpur shook the entire city. The silence of the night turned into chaos within a few moments. People from many houses came out in fear. Videos went viral on social media, in which the sound of the explosion was so loud that people mistook it for an earthquake. But after a few hours of investigation, what came out gave everyone a sigh of relief, in fact it was not an explosion, but the sonic boom of a fighter jet of the Indian Air Force.

Police investigated late night, no damage found

Mandore police station officer Kishanlal Vishnoi said that as soon as the sound of the explosion was heard, the police team reached the spot and the surrounding area was thoroughly investigated. Till late night it was ensured that there was no explosion or damage. Nothing suspicious was found in the investigation. Later it was found out that this sound was produced by breaking the sound barrier during the high speed flight of the Air Force fighter plane.

Air Force clarified, sonic boom occurred during routine flight

IDU (Indian Defense Updates), the official handle of the Indian Air Force, posted on “X” said that the explosion was not due to any attack or accident, but was a sonic boom that occurred during a routine flight. He appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to rumours.

What is sonic boom?

According to experts, when a fighter plane flies faster than the speed of sound (about 332 meters per second), the air pressure suddenly breaks — this is called breaking the sound barrier. This results in a loud bang-like sound, which is called a sonic boom. This situation occurs when the speed of the aircraft reaches approximately 1200 km per hour or more.

Operation ‘Trishul’ going on on the western border

These days, Indian Air Force’s Operation Trishul exercise is going on on the western border. In this, many fighter planes are also flying from Jodhpur base. It is believed that this sonic boom was heard when these planes gained high speed on the outskirts on Tuesday night.

No permission to break sound barrier in populated areas

Defense experts say that pilots are not allowed to break the sound barrier over residential areas. This time too this incident probably happened in the outskirts, where the population is less. It is being told that this loud explosion was heard up to 100 kilometers away.

Such an incident has happened before too

In March 2019 also, similar loud explosions were heard in Jodhpur, which later turned out to be a sonic boom. Even at that time, panic spread among the people for some time.
