What is SCIFF and what is its purpose?

SCIFF (School Cinema International Film Festival) is an international film festival that gives children a new perspective to learn, understand and think through cinema. According to Syed Sultan Ahmed, Festival Director and Founder of LXL Ideas, SCIFF started with a very simple but strong thought that cinema should not be limited to just the elite class or film festivals, but should reach every child. Movies are not just entertainment but a learning tool that gives children a new way of seeing, feeling and thinking. According to him, now any school in India can organize its own film festival through SCIFF and bring the world’s best stories straight to the classroom for children.

The objective of the festival matches with NEP 2020.

According to Syed Sultan Ahmed, in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasis has also been laid on creative learning and education through various mediums, in which cinema has also been considered an important tool. According to him, through SCIFF we want to create a generation that watches films intelligently, learns with curiosity and expresses itself with sensitivity. Every frame becomes a classroom and every story teaches a lesson of life.

SCIFF gets support from film festivals around the world

SCIFF 2025 is also getting great recognition at the international level. Global festivals such as Annecy International Animation Film Festival (France), AniMela Festival (India), Giffoni Film Festival (Italy) and ZERO PLUS International Film Festival (Russia) have supported SCIFF. Apart from this, France and Spain are also associated as partners.

A new way of learning with the WATCH, LEARN, MAKE framework through SCIFF

SCIFF works on the WATCH, LEARN, MAKE framework to engage children with cinema. In which-

WATCH Cinema: Schools are transformed into mini theatres, where age-appropriate films are shown for children to inspire thought and conversation.

LEARN CINEMA: Children are taught behind-the-scenes lessons on filmmaking, such as workshops on scriptwriting, camera, sound and editing. Additionally, film education is also imparted to remote students through online masterclasses.

MAKE Cinema: In this, students showcase their creativity by making their own films and also get a chance to be a part of the youth jury in next year’s festival.
