IPL 2026 Trade News: The trade deal, which was supposed to happen between CSK and RR for players like Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran, has been put on hold.
As per Cricbuzz, the delay happened because RR have eight overseas players on their side and according to rules, a side cannot have more than eight overseas players. And that’s why they couldn’t buy England’s Sam Curran from CSK in the trade deal if they release at least one overseas player, who was bought for a whopping amount of Rs 2.40 crore in the mega auction.
“The delay is due to a procedural complication because of the inclusion of a third player in the deal. The third player happens to be an overseas cricketer, and the Royals’ overseas quota is already full. As per the regulatory compulsions, they cannot accommodate Sam Curran of England in their roster unless they release one of their existing foreign players,” a Cricbuzz report said.
“Adding to the complexity is the meagre balance in their player purse-they are left with only Rs 30 lakh, while Curran’s auction value is Rs 2.4 crore,” the report said.
The Rajasthan-based franchise had retained Shimron Hetmyer for a whopping amount of Rs 11 crore before the mega auction in 2024 and had bought players like Jofra Archer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kwena Maphaka, and Nandre Burger. They had also included South Africa’s Lhuan-dre Pretorius as an injury replacement.
As per the report, in order to buy Curran, RR might have to let Hasaranga go along with Theekshana, as they had bought them for a whopping amount of Rs 5.25 and Rs 4.40 crore.
As far as the trade deal between Jadeja and Samson is concerned, it won’t be a problem, as both these players were retained for Rs 18 crore before the mega auction last year.
And since this deal between RR and CSK isn’t finalised yet, there are chances that this deal might not happen at all.
“Possible but unlikely. I cannot guarantee it will not be stalled. But having come this far, the likelihood of one of them backing out is less,” a source told Cricbuzz.
