Senior Bihar Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed has resigned from the party due to differences with the local leadership. He announced this after the elections and made it clear that he would not join any other party. This is being considered a big blow for Congress.
Patna: As the voting for the second phase of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 ends and the date of results (November 14) approaches, the Congress party has suffered a major setback. Former Union Minister and senior Muslim face of Bihar Congress Shakeel Ahmed has resigned from the membership of the party. He has cited differences with the local leadership as the main reason for his big decision.
‘Local Adjustment’ could not be created
While talking to the media after his resignation, Shakeel Ahmed clarified that his decision is not in opposition to the policies or principles of the party, but it is only the result of not being able to make adjustments at the local level. Shakeel Ahmed said, “This has happened due to differences with some people in my party. But I will remain a well-wisher of the policies and principles of the party. I have resigned from the membership, I have no opposition to the policies and principles of the party.”
When asked whether his anger was with the high command or at the state level, he clarified, “It is a matter of local adjustment. People appointed by the high command are at the local level. So it is natural that an adjustment could not be made in the party, due to which this happened.”
The decision was taken 20 days ago
The former Union Minister said that he had made up his mind to resign long ago, but he did not announce it in the middle of the elections so that the party does not suffer any kind of loss. He said, “I had decided to resign from the party 15-20 days ago. But I did not make the announcement because five-six people should be angry because of me. That is why I have announced after the second phase of voting.”
Shakeel Ahmed will not go to any other party
Putting an end to political speculations regarding Shakeel Ahmed’s resignation, he clarified that he will not be a part of any other party at present. He also said, “I will not be a part of any other party nor will my children enter politics and contest elections.” This statement puts an end to the speculations about his next step in Bihar politics.
Shakeel Ahmed’s resignation has come at a time when exit poll figures are also not very encouraging for the Grand Alliance. In such a situation, leaving the party of a prominent Muslim face can create a serious internal challenge for the Congress.
