Yogi government has started the construction of 85 MLD intake well and 55 MLD water treatment plant to end the drinking water crisis of Yamunapar region. This project will ensure supply of pure Yamuna water to 55 thousand houses.
Agra. Yogi government has started a big and historic project to end the drinking water crisis that has been going on for years in the Yamuna region. Jal Nigam has started the work of building an 85 million liters per day (MLD) capacity intake well and an associated 55 MLD water treatment plant (WTP) in Yamuna river at Poiya Ghat. On completion, this project will ensure supply of pure Yamuna water in the morning and evening to more than 55 thousand houses.
Construction work of intake well and water treatment plant started
Under the project, an intake well of 85 MLD is being built at a depth of three to seven meters inside the Yamuna river at Poiya Ghat (direction of Khandauli). The Jal Nigam team has started the work of taking soil samples, so that the most suitable place for construction can be decided.
A 55 MLD water treatment plant will be built just half a kilometer away from Intakwell. Water from the intake well will directly reach the plant, where it will be treated and then supplied through pipelines to various areas across Yamuna.
Work of laying 231 km long pipeline continues
Under the project, the work of laying 231 km long pipeline is going on at a fast pace. Besides, the process of providing new water connections to homes has also been started. The government aims to complete this entire project within one to one and a half years, after which the people across Yamuna will get permanent relief from the drinking water crisis.
Now we will not have to face water crisis in summer
Till now, due to lack of pipeline in many new areas across Yamuna, people had to face severe water crisis especially in summer. Private tanker operators used to make arbitrary recovery and complaints were lodged with the Municipal Corporation and the Collectorate every day. In view of these problems, the Yogi government has implemented a new drinking water scheme (first and second phase), which will provide relief to thousands of families.
Divisional Commissioner is doing regular review
Divisional Commissioner Shailendra Singh said that the government is committed to providing basic facilities to every citizen of the state and improving their quality of life. He said that this project is very important for providing drinking water to 55 thousand houses of Agra district. This work is being reviewed every week so that it can be completed within the stipulated time.
