Cocktail 2 box office Day 2: Shahid, Kriti film crosses Rs 50-crore mark globally

Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s Cocktail 2 continued its box office run on Day 2 despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

According to trade website Sacnilk,  in India, the romantic drama added Rs 16.25 crore on Saturday, taking its two-day domestic collection to Rs 29.75 crore.

The film has also grossed Rs 50.95 crore worldwide within two days of its release. Sacnilk reported that Cocktail 2 recorded an overall occupancy of 26 per cent on Saturday across 10,245 shows, with occupancy rising from 13.23 per cent in the morning to 42.46 per cent during the night shows.

The sequel has also outperformed the opening two-day business of the original Cocktail. The 2012 romantic drama, directed by Imtiaz Ali, had earned Rs 23.18 crore in India during its first two days.

The film’s performance has come despite competition from several new releases, including Bobby Deol’s Bandar, the Hollywood horror film Obsession, Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga and Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past.

Directed by Homi Adajania,   played by  , and Diya, played by , who are childhood sweethearts. Though they share a strong bond, they are hesitant about taking the next step towards marriage. Their lives take an unexpected turn during a holiday in Sicily, where they reconnect with Diya’s close friend Ally, played by  , who convinces them to drop their travel plans and spend time with her.

What begins as a fun-filled holiday soon turns into an emotional journey. As insecurities begin to surface, Diya starts questioning Kunal’s true feelings and whether he is marrying her out of love or a sense of responsibility.
