Aamir Khan and his family have expressed deep distress over recent remarks made by his brother, Faissal Khan, claiming that his statements about their mother and family dynamics were both hurtful and misleading.
In a recent interview, Faissal alleged years of mistreatment by Aamir and other family members.
Family’s Official Statement
“We are distressed by Faissal’s hurtful and misleading portrayal of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. As this is not the first time he has misrepresented these events, we feel it necessary to clarify our intentions and reaffirm our solidarity as a family.
It is important to share that every decision regarding Faissal has been taken collectively as a family, in consultation with multiple medical professionals, and always with love, compassion, and a desire to support his emotional and psychological well-being. For this reason, we have refrained from publicly discussing the details of a painful and difficult period for our family.
We request the media for empathy, and to avoid turning a private matter into salacious, inflammatory, and hurtful gossip.”
The statement was signed by multiple family members, including Reena Datta, Junaid Khan, Ira Khan, Farhat Datta, Rajiv Datta, Kiran Rao, Santosh Hegde, Seher Hegde, Mansoor Khan, Nuzhat Khan, Imran Khan, Tina Fonseca, Zayn Marie Khan, and Pablo Khan.
What Faissal Khan Said
Speaking with Pinkvilla, Faissal alleged that his family claimed he had schizophrenia and described him as “mad” and “a danger to society.” He further claimed that years ago, Aamir confined him to his Mumbai home for over a year.
“They were saying I’ve got schizophrenia and that I’m a mad person. I can harm society. I was thinking, how do I escape from this chakravyuh (trap)? I was stuck in it because my entire family was against me, thinking I was crazy,” Faissal said.
He claimed he was denied contact with his father, who he believed could help him. “I didn’t have his number. Aamir had locked me inside the house for a year. They took away my phone, I couldn’t go outside. There was a bodyguard outside my room, and they were giving me medicines,” he alleged.
Faissal said that after a year of confinement, Aamir eventually allowed him to move to another house when he insisted.
Aamir-Faissal Relationship Over the Years
The brothers have shared a troubled relationship for decades. Faissal was once involved in a legal dispute with the family after being asked to relinquish his signatory rights, leading him to approach the court. He has previously shared that he underwent a 20-day mental evaluation at JJ Hospital, where doctors declared him mentally fit and of sound mind.
The brothers last appeared together in the 2000 film Mela, alongside Twinkle Khanna and directed by Dharmesh Darshan.
