Yaara tere sadqe ishq sikhaa… The Cocktail fever is back again! Starring in the spiritual sequel (titled Cocktail 2) of Homi Adajania’s much-loved 2012 film are Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna.
While the rom-com isn’t connected to the first instalment or its iconic characters that remain memorable, it has still managed to receive decent reviews. The story revolves around Kunal and Diya’s trip to Sicily that changes everything. The film has generated strong buzz upon its release, which is reflected in its Day 1 box office collections.
Cocktail 2 Box Office Collection Day 1
On its opening day, Cocktail 2 reportedly earned a net of Rs 13.50 crore (as per early estimates) from 10,835 screenings across India.
According to Sacnilk, the film’s domestic gross stood at Rs 16.20 crore. Internationally, the film minted around Rs 4 crore from overseas markets on Day 1. This took its overall worldwide gross to Rs 20.20 crore.
If the numbers are any indication, Cocktail 2 has had a solid start at the box office. The film is expected to pick up further momentum over the weekend, which will boost its overall earnings. However, the real challenge will come on Monday, the first weekday after release. Whether it will hold steady and pass the crucial test remains to be seen. For now, the film is off to a positive start.

All About Cocktail 2
Helmed by Homi Adajania, it is a spiritual sequel to Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty’s 2012 film, which still enjoys a massive fan base. In Cocktail 2, Shahid Kapoor is seen as Kunal, Kriti Sanon as Ally, and Rashmika Mandanna as Diya.
Kunal and Diya are childhood sweethearts who have been together for 16 years. Tired of all the “shaadi kab kar rahe ho” questions, they decide to take a vacation to Italy, where they bump into Diya’s university friend Ally. The surprising third person in their relationship brings chaos. Will Kunal and Diya survive the storm?
Our in-house critic gave the film a rating of 3/5 stars and wrote, “While the film has its peaks, the second half feels shoddily written and uneven in execution. But despite the indigestible plot twist, the film manages to work because of its attractive cast, relatable relationship dilemmas and a gorgeous setting. Most importantly, it understands that a sequel doesn’t always need the same characters or story.”
