Porsche Will No Longer Sell Its Two Coolest EV Models In The States

Porsche is cutting two of the most interesting Taycan variants from its U.S. lineup. For 2027, the Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo wagons will no longer be sold in America. One could say that Porsche is Taycan them away (pardon the bad pun).

The decision comes as Porsche updates the rest of the Taycan range with a larger standard battery, new simulated gearshifts, revised sound, and improved charging hardware. Unfortunately, those changes will only apply to the sedan in the U.S.

For enthusiasts, the loss stings because the Taycan wagons offered Porsche performance, EV speed, and extra practicality in a shape that stood apart from the usual luxury SUV crowd.

Porsche says the reason is that American buyers did not choose them in meaningful numbers. In the company’s words, the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo played only a minor role in the U.S. product mix.

Porsche Followed The Sales Numbers

Porsche confirmed that it is  because demand was too low. The company did not provide exact sales figures for the Sport Turismo or Cross Turismo.

That explanation is not surprising, even if it is disappointing. Taycan sales overall have cooled in the U.S., with the model posting 4,142 sales in 2025 and only 607 units in the first quarter of 2026.

Wagons already occupy a narrow slice of the American market. Add premium EV pricing to that equation, and the buyer pool gets even smaller.

The Cross Turismo Had Real Personality

The Taycan Cross Turismo was arguably the most characterful version of Porsche’s electric sedan family. It added a wagon roofline, standard all-wheel drive, extra ride height, rugged cladding, and a Gravel driving mode.

The Sport Turismo took a cleaner approach. It kept the long-roof practicality without the off-road-inspired styling, making it feel like the purist’s choice for buyers who wanted space without crossover cosplay.

Both versions kept the Taycan’s sharp handling and brutal acceleration. They simply added a dose of usability that made the car feel even easier to love.

The Sedan Gets The Upgrades

The 2027 Taycan sedan continues in the U.S. with several meaningful updates. Porsche now makes the larger Performance Battery Plus pack standard across the lineup.

The updated Taycan also gains a native NACS DC fast-charging port on the passenger side, while the driver side keeps a J1772 AC port. Porsche will include a CCS adapter as part of the package.

The biggest talking point is E-Shift, a new system that simulates eight virtual gears through steering wheel paddles. It works with a virtual rev counter and revised Electric Sport Sound to make the EV feel more mechanical.

The Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo are gone from the U.S., but Porsche has not killed them globally. Other markets, including parts of Europe, will continue to receive Taycan wagon variants.

Canada will reportedly keep at least one Cross Turismo configuration as well. That makes the American cancellation even more frustrating for wagon fans here.

The move also comes at an odd time, since Audi and BMW have found success with high-performance wagons in the U.S. The difference may be that those cars still offer the emotional pull of powerful combustion engines.

Future Cult Cars In The Making

The Taycan wagons may have failed to find enough new buyers, but that could make them more interesting later. Low sales, strong performance, and discontinued body styles are often the ingredients of future enthusiast favorites.

Used EV depreciation may also work in favor of buyers who always wanted one but could not justify the original price. A Taycan Cross Turismo or Sport Turismo could become a very tempting secondhand performance wagon.

For now, Porsche’s U.S. lineup has lost its coolest electric long roofs. The Taycan sedan lives on, but the most distinctive versions are leaving before many Americans ever gave them a chance.
