Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen its position in the hybrid segment with multiple new models and the introduction of its in-house developed strong hybrid (codenamed HEV) powertrain over the next five years. While the brand’s premium and large UVs (utility vehicles) will continue to feature Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid powertrain, mass-market offerings such as the Fronx, Swift, Brezza and others will be offered with Maruti Suzuki’s own hybrid technology.
New Series Hybrid Powertrain In 2027
According to reports, the will be the first model to feature the company’s own series hybrid powertrain, which is expected to arrive in 2027. According to reports, Maruti’s series hybrid powertrain will be significantly more affordable and efficient than Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid system. It’s expected to offer a fuel efficiency of over 35kmpl.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki’s HEV-based hybrid range is likely to use an electrified version of the Z12E, three-cylinder petrol engine. In this setup, the compact engine will work as a generator, charging a 1.5kWh-2kWh battery pack or driving power to an electric motor. The same hybrid powertrain will be used in the next-generation Baleno, which is expected to hit roads sometime in 2027.
New Maruti Grand Vitara & Its 7-Seater Version
The new 2026 Maruti Grand Vitara facelift and its 7-seater version are currently undergoing testing with frequent sightings of test mules hint the their launch is closer. Both SUVs are expected to launch by the end of this year.
The new Grand Vitara facelift is likely to come with minor design changes and feature upgrades, while retaining the existing engine options. Maruti Suzuki’s will be based on the Grand Vitara, sharing its powertrains, platform and features. However, it will be longer and offer more spacious than the standard 5-seater model.
Maruti Invicto Lower Variants
The Maruti Invicto is essentially a re-badged Toyota Innova Hycross, which is set to receive lower-spec hybrid variants in 2027. A similar update is also expected for the Invicto MPV.
