Suhasini Mulay Love Story
Suhasini Mulay initially created a Facebook account following a co-star’s recommendation that the digital platform might help her find new acting opportunities. One day, the website suggested the profile of Atul Gurtu, a renowned physicist working on the Large Hadron Collider. Intrigued by the suggestion, she thought to herself, “Physicists are on Facebook too?” She sent him a quick message asking, “What is LHC?” This simple question sparked a warm conversation over emails. When Atul casually mentioned he was seeking a life partner, Suhasini laughed at the odds, thinking, “When I couldn’t find the right person in 60 years, how am I suddenly going to find him now?”
The Lagaan actress revealed that she was initially hesitated to share her personal details. When Atul Gurtu requested her contact information, she jokingly replied, “Good girls don’t give their phone numbers to strangers.” To verify his identity, she cross-checked his online pictures with his official office website. A specific message from Atul Gurtu eventually motivated her to take a leap of faith: “If you want to bring a change in your life, you have to work towards it.”
Before meeting Atul Gurtu in person after Diwali, Suhasini Mulay made a strict list of qualities she needed. She wanted someone who was not overly religious, judgmental, or critical of different lifestyles. Atul checked every single box. Her mother was initially stunned by the news when the Panipat actress called her to say, “I think I’ve met a man.” After interacting with him at a lecture, her mother proudly stated, “You’ve found an intelligent man.”

Atul Gurtu won the family over by explaining his mature outlook on late-life marriage, “Suhasini has lived alone all her life and can continue to do so. I can continue to live alone as well. But I want to give happiness a chance. If it doesn’t work out, we will simply admit we made a mistake.”

Their wedding registration even came with a hilarious moment when the confused government official looked at them and asked, “You and uncle?” causing the couple to burst out laughing. Today, at 75, Suhasini has been happily married for over 15 years.
