Why Sanjay Manjrekar Wanted India A To Drop Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs Afghanistan A

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-starred India A cricket team booked their spot in the final of the tri-series with a win against Afghanistan A in their fourth game of the tri-series.

With 2 wins and 4 points, India A sit in the top position in the points table and are confirmed to play the final on June 21. One of Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A will join India A in the final. Afghanistan will have to register a big win over Sri Lanka to qualify for the final. Once again, all eyes were on Sooryavanshi.

The left-handed batter got off to a positive start but failed to convert it into a big knock once again. Sooryavanshi scored 38 off 28 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 135.71.

During the India A-Afghanistan A fixture, Sanjay Manjrekar took to X to reveal that he would have dropped Sooryavanshi from the playing XI if he were the coach of the team. “If I was India A coach or manager I would have left Vaibhav Suryavanshi out for this game v AFG. Only to let him know that’s it’s not OK to get physical on the field. Whatever the provocations,” he wrote on X.

Manjrekar was referring to the ugly exchange between Sooryavanshi and Vishen Halambage. The India A opener charged at Halambage after he made some comments. He hasn’t been fined or banned for his on-field actions.

BCCI on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Speaking to The Times of India,  secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the board hasn’t spoken to Sooryavanshi yet. “It is not our duty to speak to the players for any reason. The players are only concentrated with [sic.] their games and the support staff and the coaches who are present with them, nothing else. So nobody interferes in their game and their strategy and their preparation for that big series, which is presently going on,” Saikia said.

“We will follow this policy that during a major tournament, when they are playing for the country, they should not get distracted by any other secondary issues, which are not of paramount importance. The important thing is India’s winning and performing well in the tri-series. So that is our focus and other than that, we are not doing anything at this stage.”
