Spider-Man Brand New Day: Kevin Feige’s MASSIVE Tease About Sadie Sink’s Mystery Role Has Stranger Things Connection

Marvel has managed to keep fans on their toes for its upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Peter Parker’s return continues to remain one of the biggest mysteries in the Marvel universe, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has added fresh fuel to the fire regarding the role played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. As MCU fandom steps up theories and guesses about the newest cast member, the Marvel boss has only made things difficult in a way. The upcoming major release will see Tom Holland returning as the web-slinging friendly neighbourhood superhero, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

Sadie Sink, known for playing fan-favourite character Max in the Netflix series, has now become the most interesting talking point ahead of the film’s release on July 31 (July 30 in India). Since her casting was confirmed, Marvel and Sony have been secretive about her character, so much so that reports said Sadie wore baggy jackets while filming so photographers couldn’t identify her costume. Even the actress herself would not give anything away, playfully dodging questions in promotional appearances.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Kevin Feige was asked if audiences would instantly recognise Sadie when the film arrives. His answer was short enough to be the stuff of speculation. “If you’ve seen Stranger Things, you’ll definitely recognise her… I know what you meant,” Feige joked before laughing and admitting he knew the secret meaning of the question.

While the comment doesn’t reveal who Sadie Sink is playing, fans are taking it as a strategic tease. Marvel is notorious for keeping their cards close when it comes to big reveals, so Feige’s safe comment has become a huge talking point on the internet.

The question about Sadie Sink’s character still remains unanswered, but that has not stopped fans from coming up with their own theories. Typical guesses include famous names from the  universe like Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Others think Sadie could play obscure Marvel characters like Firestar, Shathra, Mayday Parker or Rachel Cole-Alves.

But the most persistent theory points to Jean Grey. The rumours only increased after a supposed merchandise leak reportedly revealed Sadie’s character surrounded by pink energy effects. Fans quickly linked the image to Jean Grey’s telepathic and telekinetic powers, meaning the X-Men heroine is the current frontrunner in online predictions.

Speculations also claim that Sadie’s role contains a major twist and could become one of the film’s highlights. On top of the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink’s character, Kevin Feige also called   a major change for the MCU’s version of Spider-Man.

After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is now completely alone as the world forgets his identity. Feige said the movie brings the character back to his comic-book beginnings as a young hero on his own, fighting regular crime and personal issues instead of threats to the universe.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton has also teased that Peter’s emotional distance is explored through him throwing himself even further into his duties as Spider-Man.
