‘Kalki 2898 AD’ became one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema, and fans were looking forward to its sequel. However, everyone was shocked when Deepika Padukone was removed from the sequel. As per the latest buzz, Alia Bhatt has reportedly been approached as Deepika’s replacement in the film.
Is Alia Bhatt part of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel?
While speaking to Hindustan Times, a spokesperson for the film denied the rumours. “No shooting,” they said.
When asked about Alia Bhatt’s involvement in the film, they said, “There’s no official clarity yet. Someone posted it on social media, and everyone else copied and pasted it as news. There’s definitely no clarity regarding her casting yet.”
Why did Deepika Padukone leave Kalki 2898 AD?
The production house Vyjayanthi Movies announced on X that she will also not star in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.
“This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works,” they wrote.
It has also been reported that Sai Pallavi will replace Deepika Padukone. Earlier, a source told Hindustan Times, “Nothing has been finalised yet. But yes, the makers are looking at Sai to play SUM-80 after Deepika’s exit. They think she’ll be a perfect fit for the role.”
“All these are just rumours because nothing has been finalised yet. Please wait for official confirmation,” the source said.
The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Shobana and Disha Patani. The plot is set in a dystopian future in the year 2898 AD in the city of Kashi and follows a group on a mission to protect lab subject SUM-80’s unborn child, believed to be Kalki, the final incarnation of Vishnu.
