Meenakshi Seshadri left India and gave up on her career after marriage to Harish Mysore

Meenakshi Seshadri chose to step away from Bollywood at the peak of her career in 1995, after her marriage to Harish Mysore. While she gave up her life and highly successful acting career in India to prioritise family life, she kept her artistic side alive by taking up whatever opportunities that came her way. Before permanently moving, Meenakshi actually convinced her husband to relocate from the United States to India so she could continue her film and classical dance career, according to Rediff.

Harish Mysore moved to India with an American MNC and stayed for nearly a year. However, Meenakshi realised that working in India was hindering his professional growth. As an investment banker rooted in the US, Meenakshi realised that the setup did not match her husband’s potential. The actress shared that she was pleasantly surprised when Harish agreed to relocate to India with her. She told Rediff that she never imagined he would agree to her, and she was glad he did. She stated:
“I threw him this curve ball by telling him, “I’m good at Hindi films and at Indian classical dance and I won’t get these opportunities there. So would you see if you can make your career in India?’ He made the effort. He came to India with an American company, and was here for almost a year. But it wasn’t working out very well for him because, as an investment banker, his real opportunities were in the US.”

After realising she needed to move to the US for Harish, Meenakshi decided to overcome her insecurities and build a career from scratch there. She felt that, at that point, her priority was her family and that she wanted to do whatever she could for them. Regarding that, Meenakshi mentioned:
“I recognised that I just needed to get over my insecurities. Once I focused on what I really wanted, the answer was clear: I wanted a family. I sold all my properties in India and said goodbye.”
