Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is currently out of the national team and he has hit a century even faster than Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He broke AB de Villiers’ record by scoring 100 runs in just 29 balls, but there is a twist.
Where did Yuzvendra Chahal smash the century?
Yuzvendra Chahal took part in a “Score 100” gaming challenge on former England captain Kevin Pietersen’s YouTube channel. He completed the challenge in 29 balls to beat de Villiers’ record, though interestingly, Chahal actually got out twice while doing it. For comparison, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a real-life century off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL.
What were the rules?
According to the rules of the challenge, a player can keep batting even after getting out. This means Chahal’s 100 runs in 29 balls were made across three different tries, not all in one go.
In Pietersen’s challenge, a player has to face 50 balls, and the speed of the ball increases by 1 mph after every delivery. It was designed to test the world’s best batters. AB de Villiers previously held the record for this challenge, which Chahal has now broken.
What are Yuzvendra Chahal’s stats?
Yuzvendra Chahal has played 73 ODIs and 80 T20Is for India. Batting at number 11, he has scored a total of 83 runs in his international career, 77 runs in ODIs and 6 runs in T20Is. Even though his career has lasted almost ten years, his best batting performance actually came during the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. Playing for Haryana against Uttar Pradesh, he scored 48 runs off 152 balls.
Where is the video?
When it comes to his bowling, Chahal has taken 121 wickets in ODIs and 96 wickets in T20Is. His best T20 performance was in Bengaluru, where he took 6 wickets for just 25 runs. This stands as the third-best bowling performance by any bowler in T20 International history. In ODIs, his best performance was at the MCG against Australia, where he took 6 wickets for 42 runs, becoming the first spinner ever to achieve this feat in Australia.
