IRCTC website down amid Chhath Puja rush: ticket booking halted

Kolkata: Passengers are massively inconvenienced when the IRCTC website and app faced an outage leading to stoppage of ticket booking activities amid the rush of Chhath Puja. Multiple ticket buyers wrote on social media that Tatkal tickets cannot be booked on social media. IRCTC has advised passengers to record their complaints on the e-query portal. However, there was no comment from the Railways on what appeared to be a technical snag.

Chhath Puja is already under way. Like every year, a large number of users are visiting the IRCTC website to book railway tickets for travel on the occasion. But there was a rude shock to many when they found the ticket booking portal being inoperative on Saturday morning. Many wrote on social media that they were unable to buy tatkal tickets. Many are also complaining on the website and mobile app.

Users should record concerns, suggested railways

The demand for railway ticket booking go up for such festivals and Chhath Puja is no exception. Some of those who tried to book tickets also provided screenshots with their complaints. IRCTC authorities responded on X handle and said that users can record their complaints/concerns on the portal along with their registered mobile number or email ID. A link to the website was also to enable users in the process of filing complaints.

Some passengers claimed that the IRCTC mobile app has been giving trouble for the past three to four days. The app often freezes, especially during Tatkal ticket booking, making ticket booking difficult, they alleged. Trains travelling to Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh from different parts of the country are facing heavy ticket demands. Many passengers are unable to get confirmed tickets.

Many irate passengers are urging that the technical snag be addressed soon so that they can book tickets. Many also wrote that such technical glitches cause significant trouble to passengers during the festive season. The Railways is expected to resolve the issue soon.
