Chhath Puja 2025 Kharna: The great festival of Chhath Puja has started from today. Today is the first day of Chhath Puja. Today he is bathed and eaten. This great festival will conclude with the offering of Arghya to the rising Sun on 28th October. The second day of Chhath is called Kharna. It is going to be celebrated tomorrow. There is a tradition of making prasad of jaggery kheer and roti on the day of Kharna.

Importance of Kharna

The special significance of the second day of Chhath i.e. Kharna has been mentioned in the religious scriptures. Kharna means. ‘accuracy’. During Kharna, devotees take full care of cleanliness and purity. According to beliefs, it is the day of Kharna, when Chhathi enters the house. The day of Kharna is considered to be one of complete devotion and dedication. On this day one gets the blessings of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.

Why use mango wood for making Prasad?

An earthen stove is made on the evening of Kharna. Mango wood is used in this stove. Mango wood is considered pure and satvik. It is believed that mango wood is very dear to Chhath Maiya, hence mango wood is used to make Prasad on the occasion of Chhath. Making Prasad from this wood brings positive energy to the house.

Kharna’s method

  • On the day of Kharna, fasting women prepare jaggery and rice kheer on a new earthen stove.
  • This kheer is prepared in a brass vessel with jaggery, rice and milk.
  • Also, roti, puri or thekua is made from wheat flour.
  • This kheer is offered to the sixth mother.
  • After this everyone accepts it as Prasad.
  • Then the 36-hour waterless fast begins.
