Beijing/New Delhi. The calmness and courage with which a man in China is facing death has become an inspiration not only for his daughter but for millions of people. A terminally ill man in eastern China has impressed many with his calm and courageous approach to death, according to the South China Morning Post. The name of this 67-year-old man is Dong, whose daughter Sanbai has shared an emotional video of her conversation with her father on social media.
Doctors gave the answer, still did not give up hope of living
Sanbai said her 67-year-old father, Dong, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2025. After several unsuccessful attempts at chemotherapy and radiotherapy he decided to stop treatment. According to Sanbai, in August 2025, she left her real estate job and completely concentrated on taking care of her father along with her mother. Sanbai told that despite becoming physically weaker day by day, my father remains mentally strong and is guiding me to accept the end of life with dignity and peace.
Doctors gave less than 6 months time
Sanbai said doctors had given her father less than six months to live, but Dong’s attitude and life story have impacted millions of people. Sanbai shared the story of her father’s life and how he rose from poverty to success. My father worked in a factory during the day and learned Japanese at night. Later, on the basis of his hard work, he got admission in Shanghai International University. After studies, he went to Japan for a few days and worked there. After returning from Japan, he opened his own textile company. Then at the age of 45, he fulfilled his dream of traveling by selling his company.
When the end has come, there is no need to fight it
On October 16, Dong’s daughter Sanbai shared an emotional video on social media, showing a quiet conversation between her and her father about life and death. Dong told his daughter, “Life is meant to be enjoyed. But, when fate says the end time has come, there is no need to fight it.” Saying this, Dong smiled and his face reflected a calm and blissful happiness.
People are not afraid of death, they are afraid of the process of dying.
Dong continued, “People think they are afraid of death. But actually they are afraid of the process of dying. The end of life in itself is completely natural.” To this, his daughter Sanbai responded with tearful eyes, “I understand, but my heart still can’t accept the thought of losing you.” To this, Dong consoled his daughter and said, “There is no need to be too sad. Just think that I am ready to go on a journey. As long as you keep me in your heart, I will always find my way back”.
Dong inspired his daughter to live with complete freedom
Dong encouraged her daughter to live life to the fullest, dress up, travel and always smile. Dong also supported his daughter’s decision not to marry or have children. He said, this is a completely normal decision. Your life is yours after all. “My father wants to live with dignity and quality. We want him to keep fighting, but ultimately we decided to respect his decision,” Sanbai told the South China Morning Post. Let us tell you that this conversation made millions of people emotional and started emotional discussions about life, illness and death on Chinese social media.
Daughter still hopes for a miracle for her father
Sanbai said she has learned to accept the impermanence of life, but she still hopes for a miracle that will let her father live a little longer.
