BJP’s Sanjay Saraogi is contesting for the sixth consecutive time in Darbhanga Assembly elections 2025. In 2020 he won by a slight margin. Will RJD break BJP’s stronghold this time or will Saraogi create history again?
Darbhanga Assembly Election 2025: Darbhanga Assembly seat is one of the most important and politically sensitive seats of Bihar. This seat has been in continuous existence since independence and the first elections were held here in 1952. Till now, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have registered maximum victory on this seat, but since 2005, this seat has become an unbreakable stronghold of BJP. Current MLA Sanjay Saraogi has won from here five consecutive times and now he is preparing to try his luck for the sixth time in 2025.
2010 elections: BJP’s dominance begins
In 2010, BJP candidate Sanjay Saraogi defeated RJD’s Sultan Ahmed by a huge margin of 27,554 votes. Saraogi got 64,136 votes, while the RJD candidate could get only 36,582 votes. This victory was the beginning of BJP’s long dominance in Darbhanga.
2015 elections: second big victory
In 2015, once again BJP hoisted the flag of victory on Darbhanga seat. Sanjay Saraogi got 77,776 votes and defeated Omprakash Khedia of RJD. This time the victory margin was 7,460 votes.
2020 elections: close contest
The 2020 elections were very interesting for Darbhanga. This time RJD’s Amarnath Gami gave a tough challenge to BJP. However, Sanjay Saraogi won by securing 84,144 votes, while Amarnath Gami got 73,505 votes. The victory margin was only 10,639 votes. This result made it clear that the Grand Alliance has breached the BJP’s stronghold and the contest has now become very close.
Note: Sanjay Kumar Saraogi has become MLA from BJP. Post graduate Sanjay has four criminal cases against him. His total movable and immovable assets are Rs 5.29 crore and he has a loan of more than Rs 1 crore.
Caste equation and voter profile
There are about 2.96 lakh voters in Darbhanga Assembly. In this, Muslim and Yadav voters play a decisive role, while there are also good numbers of Brahmin, Rajput, Bhumihar and Koeri voters. Male voters are approximately 1.58 lakh and female voters are 1.37 lakh, while 15 transgender voters are also part of this democratic process.
2025 elections: Will BJP’s stronghold be broken?
Now the question is whether Sanjay Saraogi will be able to achieve the sixth consecutive victory in the Darbhanga Assembly elections in 2025 or will the opposition grand alliance destroy the BJP’s fort this time. Issues like employment, development, anger of minority community and caste equation can prove to be decisive this time.
