In Charak Samhita, alum is known as “Sphatik” and it is considered as “Tridoshnashak”, which means it pacifies all the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. According to Rishi Charak, the astringent and cooling properties of alum provide relief from skin diseases, digestive disorders and inflammatory problems. It is considered a tridosha balancing medicine – it specifically reduces Kapha dosha and also controls vata and pitta.
Alum has antibacterial and antifungal properties, which help in providing relief from acne, itching and boils. According to Ayurveda, eating alum mixed with honey also has great benefits. It provides relief from the problem of whooping cough and phlegm. Apart from this, to get relief from dandruff and itching, mix 1-2 spoons of alum in shampoo and wash your hair. By doing this the scalp will be cleaned.
Helps mosquitoes escape from the body
Mixing alum powder in rose water or plain water and applying it on the face is also beneficial. At the same time, to get soft skin, a paste made by mixing equal amount of honey in one spoon alum powder and adding a few drops of lemon juice is beneficial. After applying it on the face for 20 to 30 minutes, removing it with gentle hands and washing it makes the skin soft.
For face massage, mixing potassium alum with half spoon of water and applying it on the face for 10-15 minutes makes the skin look tight and healthy. At the same time, if you are troubled by gas and stomach heaviness, then drinking a small amount of alum water after eating can reduce stomach related problems. Not only this, when the outbreak of mosquitoes increases during the rainy season, adding alum in the pool or bucket of water cleans the water and eliminates mosquito larvae.
Helpful in removing negative forces
Alum contains potassium and aluminum sulphate, which remove impurities from water and kill infectious microorganisms. Alum trick is also used to remove bad or negative powers from the house.
