RJD gave 24 tickets to how many women while BJP-JDU gave tickets for Bihar elections 2025?

There is disparity among parties on women representation in Bihar elections. RJD has given tickets to maximum 17% women. At the same time, BJP-JDU fielded less than 13% women candidates, whereas women voters play a decisive role in elections.

Patna: Voting will be held in two phases on 243 assembly seats of Bihar. The first phase on 6 November and the second phase on 11 November. Whereas the votes will be counted on November 14. The election atmosphere is hot, poster making is intense, but this time also questions are being raised on the political participation of women. Every party talks about respect and empowerment of women from the stage, but when it comes to ticket distribution, the picture looks different.

RJD gave maximum opportunity to women in Bihar elections 2025

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has released the list of its 143 candidates this time. This includes 24 women. That means about 17% of the total candidates are women. In this way, RJD has become the party that has given tickets to the maximum number of women in this election. This time Tejashwi Yadav’s team has given preference to youth and women leadership. According to party sources, Tejashwi’s focus is on “representational justice along with social justice”. This is the reason why many new and emerging women from the grassroots level have been given tickets in the list.

How many women did BJP-JDU give tickets to in Bihar elections 2025?

At the same time, both the major parties of the NDA alliance, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) have lagged behind in the matter of representation of women. Both the parties are contesting elections on 101-101 seats, but have given tickets to only 13-13 women. That means the share of women among the total candidates is less than 13%. These are the same parties that advocate 33% reservation for women from the platform and give slogans like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. But when the opportunity came to give the ticket, the picture changed.

Congress and LJP are lagging behind in giving tickets to women

Congress has also not performed very well regarding women. This time the party has fielded candidates on 60 seats, but has given tickets to only 5 women. That means less than 10% of the total seats. On the other hand, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has given tickets to 6 women out of 29 seats. However, most of these women are wives or daughters of some big leader. That is, the influence of “leader family” is clearly visible here too.

Women are ‘kingmakers’ in elections, still away from tickets

Women play a decisive role in every election in Bihar. In both the 2015 and 2020 elections, participation of women voters was more than that of men. But ticket distribution figures show that parties still see women as vote banks and not as leaders. Political analysts say that women voters in Bihar are no longer just a crowd but a direction-setting force. But unless the parties show honesty in giving tickets, “women empowerment” will remain limited to speeches only.

Will the 2025 elections really change the picture of women’s politics?

RJD has taken the initiative this time and by giving tickets to women, has given a signal that change has started. Now it remains to be seen whether the voters accept this change, or the same old politics is repeated again.
